We are excited to meet you!  At Contro Orthodontics we believe every patient is unique and therefore deserves a unique plan to suit his or her orthodontic needs.  This is why Dr. Contro provides a wide array of treatment options from Invisalign to self-ligating braces to make sure you get the treatment that's right for you.  Dr. Contro is committed to providing state-of-the-art care by staying current with innovative treatment options such as the use of clear aligners, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), intra-oral scanning, and cone beam CT imaging.  Dr. Contro is a VIP Diamond Plus Level: Top 1% Invisalign provider.  This means he has more experience with Invisalign than 99% of all other orthodontists and dentists in North America.

What To Expect

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child receive his or her first orthodontics checkup by the age of 7.  Your first visit is called an initial exam.  At that appointment Dr. Contro will do a thorough exam of the aesthetics and function of your smile and bite while also evaluating the health of your gums, tongue, airway, and temporomandibular joint.  He will give you an idea of what treatment options you have as well as how long treatment will take.  At this appointment a set of records will be needed which consist of a set of photographs, a panoramic and cephalometric x-ray, and a three-dimensional, computer scan of your teeth with the iTero Element intraoral scanner.  If you have taken a panoramic or cephalometric x-ray within the past year, please bring it to the first appointment.  Dr. Contro strongly believes in using the lowest dose of radiation possible, (i.e., avoiding unnecessary x-rays).  He will use those records and your exam to develop a treatment plan that is customized to your specific needs.  

During treatment you can expect:

• Regular checkups every 6-8 weeks to ensure your treatment is running smoothly

• Dr. Contro to devote time to you and/or your child educating you on the process and answering any questions you may have

• Our team to monitor oral hygiene and make appropriate recommendations

• To continue seeing your general dental provider every 6 months for checkups and cleanings

Meet Dr. Contro

Dr. Curtis Contro was born and raised in the South Bay Area. He attended the University of California, Davis (UCD) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. He went on to attend dental school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He fell in love with San Francisco  and after graduating, Dr. Contro was blessed to pursue his dream career of becoming an orthodontist. He completed an additional three years of training at the University of California, San Francisco, (UCSF) specializing in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. In addition to obtaining his specialty certification at UCSF, Dr. Contro obtained a Master’s Degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences and conducted cutting-edge, three-dimensional research on the temporomandibular joint.  His research is published in the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society Journal and won “Best Original Research Article” for the 2015-2016 year.

Dr. Contro is an active member of many dental organizations such as the ADA, CDA, SCCDS, PCSO, and AAO. He strives to provide the highest quality of care by using treatment modalities on the forefront of orthodontics such as Invisalign, self-ligating brackets, and temporary skeletal anchorage devices. He believes in early interceptive orthodontics that allows for growth modification and prevents the narrowing of treatment options for patients when they are older.

Dr. Contro is a firm believer in patient education and makes it one of his top priorities throughout the duration of treatment to teach and explain what he is doing.  Much of orthodontics relies on the patient's cooperation to get to the ideal finish. A patient that understands the "why" is more likely to do the "what". He has spent many years before becoming an orthodontist tutoring and mentoring children and considers it a privilege to continue to do this through orthodontics.

Dr. Contro is married to his college sweetheart, Steph. They have 3 sons, Jackson, Conor, and Leo. In his free time, Dr. Contro enjoys mountain biking, reading, golf, and of course goofing around with his sons.
